What’s up Nation!

A lot of coaches still look at 3v3 like it is just a small-sided game.

Something to throw in at the end of practice.

Something to keep players active.

Something fun.

But if you coach it the right way, 3v3 becomes one of the best teaching tools for the full game.

Because the same things players struggle with in 5v5 usually show up first in 3v3.

Bad spacing.

Slow reads.

Standing after passing.

Poor timing on cuts.

Driving into crowds.

Watching the ball instead of moving with purpose.

The difference is, in 3v3, there is nowhere to hide.

In 5v5, a player can stand in the corner and disappear for a few possessions. In 3v3, every player is involved. Every player has to space. Every player has to read. Every player has to move.

That is why I believe 3v3 helps players understand the game faster.

The game gets smaller, but the lessons get bigger.

Spacing becomes easier to see
