Playing Hard Is Not the Same as Playing Good Defense
What’s up Nation!
We have all praised the player who dives on the floor, sprints back in transition, and looks like they are giving everything they have.
That effort matters. But here is the truth: effort alone does not make a player a disciplined defender.
A player can play hard and still reach. They can hustle and still lose sight of their assignment. They can sprint into a closeout and fly past the shooter. They can be loud after the mistake instead of communicating before it happens.
That is the difference between activity and discipline.
What Defensive Discipline Actually Looks Like
Defensive discipline is doing the right thing, at the right time, even when the possession gets uncomfortable.
