Every coach has seen it.

A player makes a pass, then just stands there watching the rest of the possession happen.

No cut. No relocation. No new passing angle. Just three players waiting for somebody else to create the offense.

That is not always an effort problem. Most of the time, players simply have not been taught what to do after they pass.

The answer is not telling them to “move more.”

The answer is teaching them to move with purpose.

Here is the simple rule:

Every pass should lead to one of three actions: cut, replace, or relocate.

That gives players a decision instead of a vague instruction.

1. Pass and cut
After you pass, look to cut hard to the rim. Make your defender react and force the defense to make a choice.
